Just an hour from Cape Town, the Cape Winelands offer a completely different pace of life.
Rolling vineyards, mountain scenery, historic towns and award-winning restaurants create one of South Africa's most distinctive regions.
Many travellers visit for a day. Staying a little longer allows you to experience the Winelands beyond the tasting rooms and discover what makes the region so special.

Do we need a driver?
Yes, and it costs less than you would think. Tasting at four estates and driving afterwards is not something I will help arrange.
When is harvest?
February to April. The estates are at their busiest and most interesting then – but book early, because the good cellar visits go quickly.
Can we ship wine home?
Yes. Most estates handle the export paperwork, and consolidating several estates into one shipment is usually cheaper than carrying cases through an airport. I set it up.
Is it interesting for someone who barely drinks?
Often more so. The valleys, the food, the architecture and the walking are reason enough, and nobody will push a glass on you.
How many estates in a day?
Three at the very most, two if you want to sit down properly at one of them. Beyond that they stop being distinguishable.
How many nights should we stay?
While the Winelands are often visited as a day trip from Cape Town, staying more nights allows you to enjoy the region at a much more relaxed pace. It also gives you time to discover smaller estates and enjoy long lunches without watching the clock.
Can we combine the Winelands with other destinations?
Absolutely. Many travellers combine the Cape Winelands with Cape Town, the Garden Route or a safari. Because the region is so close to Cape Town, it fits naturally into almost every South Africa itinerary.

One of the things I love most about the Cape Winelands is that no two days ever feel the same.
For me, the Winelands aren't about visiting as many wineries as possible, they're about enjoying the pace of the place.
